3 Ways to Better Your Life With A Mastermind Group

How many of you have heard of a mastermind group?

If you’re anything like me, the idea of being locked away in a corporate prison doing rinse and repeat tasks forever bores the hell out of you. You wake up every morning and go to work and at some point in the upcoming days, months, or years, you pause in the middle of a meeting and wonder to yourself, “What am I doing here?” or “Is this what my life is going to be?”

You’re sick of working five days a week for two days off, and selling sixty something odd years of your life to enjoy the next twenty years of retirement (if you’re lucky enough to be healthy and have retired early). This isn’t where you want to be. And it’s not what you want your future to be. And that’s where a Mastermind group comes in.

What Is A Mastermind Group?

A mastermind group is essentially a group of like-minded people who meet regularly to offer each other professional (and sometimes even personal) advice, accountability, and support. The concept was first coined by Napoleon Hill in his book “The Law of Success” in 1925 and later mentioned again in his book “Think and Grow Rich“.

The Benefits Of A Mastermind Group

Mastermind groups offer many, many benefits– and I speak from experience. I started my own mastermind group, EmbraceHer, with two friends back in 2023, and we’ve been meeting regularly ever since. When one person is sick or out of town, we usually switch to Zoom. Why go that far, you might ask? Why not just take a sick day? It’s not like it’s our job after all.

1. Accountability

You’re right. It’s not a job. It’s something we believe in, and have seen the benefits for ourselves. Masterminds offer accountability, first and foremost. Each person comes to the mastermind with a goal they want to accomplish, and it’s your mastermind’s job to keep you on track. Is the goal is too large, they might ask questions to help you focus. If it requires more thought, they help you brainstorm. But as long as you have your mastermind group, you stay on track. Why? Because you’re all in it together. Your success is your group’s success. Your group’s success is your success.

2. Networking

Accountability is great, but a mastermind can offer one even better. A network. In a society where AI is taking over and words are being outsourced to bots, I hate to tell you this… everyone has a perfect resume. There are a lot of talented people in the world. There are tons of people who know how to work hard. So what’s the secret sauce to making you stand out?

Networking.

Let me tell you about my boyfriend (No, this isn’t just an excuse to brag about my awesome boyfriend, although he is pretty awesome). My boyfriend is a Social Worker, and he’s incredibly good at his job. He can get a job at any hospital in Northern Virginia if he wanted to. In fact, when he applied for his current job, the director called him personally within 40 minutes to invite him to interview.

You think they called him because he had a nice resume? I hate to break it to you guys but there are plenty of great resumes.

She didn’t call him personally because he had a nice resume. She called him because she’d already heard of him. The director at a different hospital in his town had already heard of him because everyone had already heard of him. Why? Because my boyfriend does one thing better than 98% of most people. Networking.

A mastermind group provides you with a network of people, and their network of people. It provides you with their perspectives, and the perspectives of those in their networks as well. And that friends, is a guaranteed route to success.

3. Resource Sharing

Last but not least, resource sharing. Back before technology, architecture, and the perks of modern society, people lived in communities, and they worked together to survive. They pooled resources to make it through the winters and storms.

We might have the privilege of having jobs and roofs over our heads not, but that doesn’t mean we can’t benefit from resource sharing.

Mastermind groups provide a collaborative environment that gives members access to a wealth of information and support they might not have gotten otherwise.

For example, one member might share a useful software tool that enhances productivity, while another might provide a valuable contact that opens the door to new business opportunities. By sharing resources, mastermind groups help members overcome challenges more efficiently, foster innovation, and accelerate personal and professional growth. This collective approach not only enhances individual success but also strengthens the group’s overall effectiveness and cohesion.

These are just a few of the benefits of joining a mastermind group. But don’t take my word for it. There’s no better way to learn than just diving in. Find yourself a group and try it!
